Like most conservatives, John McCain wasn't my first choice. He wasn't even my fourth choice. But alas, he's now my only choice. And as he continues to miss opportunities to set himself apart from the left and to rise above the flash with some actual substance, my confidence continues its downhill spiral. If the GOP keeps the White House in November it will likely be in spite of John McCain rather than because of him. But he does have a golden opportunity: live debates.
Obama has many weaknesses, which are virtually ignored by the mainstream media, but his Achilles heel is the ability to answer a direct question with a direct answer without the help of a speech writer. It's much harder for the Obama-centric networks to do damage control on the messiah's live responses to questions posed by we the people. Whatever his faults, in a live debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, my money's on McCain.
So why doesn't McCain capitalize on this? Obama once indicated that he'd be delighted to debate only to later dodge the certain bullet that would come from the proposed townhall forum. Seems like a win-win situation for McCain. At every campaign stop, issue invitation after invitation to publically debate Obama. If he fails to respond or declines, he looks afraid. If he accepts, he'll inadvertently work wonders in exposing himself as the inexperienced, liberal, "puppet" candidate that he is.
I loved Mitt Romney's "Ask Me Anything" slogan. This is in sharp contrast to Obama's message of "Ask Me Nothing.and Call it Ice Cream".
